A little bit planned, a little bit resurrected, and a lot of letting the piece decide where it wanted to go.
This one-of-a-kind kinetic pendant is one of my “Dr. Frankenstein” creations—pieces that begin at the bench without a finished design in mind. I pull together hand-fabricated elements, components from past projects, unfinished ideas, and newly made parts, then build until everything finds its place.
The front centers on a warm strawberry quartz, surrounded by amethyst and mint green garnets set into an intricate mix of sterling silver and brass. The layered construction continues through the back, where a mokume gane component becomes part of the pendant’s mechanical architecture rather than something hidden away.
he pendant is fully kinetic, with the front assembly able to rotate by hand against the detailed framework behind it. Antiqued sterling, warm brass, mixed textures, and exposed construction give it the feeling of a small mechanical relic—ornate, slightly strange, and completely one of a kind.
